Long Island City’s Recent Residential Development
On the western end of Queens is the exclusive, diverse and rapidly growing community of Long Island City. A former industrial center, it has undergone a recent revitalization and is now the location of a residential boom.

Several historic buildings have been repurposed
Long Island City was once home to many prominent bakeries and factories, with many of them now being repurposed. For example, the former Silvercup Bakery which was turned into Silvercup Studios where notable shows have been produced such as NBC’s 30 Rock.
The late Isamu Noguchi transformed a photo graving plant into the current Noguchi Museum which showcases his work as well as other rotating exhibits.

Distinct and unique subsections
Long Island City is divided into eight different subsections: Astoria, Ravenswood, Hunters Point, Middletown, Dutch Kills, Sunnyside, Bowery Bay and Blissville, all of which were incorporated in 1870.
Today, each subsection has its own intriguing history and unique local culture. Dutch Kills, as one example, used to be a crucial road hub during the American Revolutionary War and supported farms during the 19th Century. It is now undergoing a rapid commercial and residential revitalization along with Hunters Point and other subsections.
